Rare 1983 Alpina B9 3.5 goes up on sale

“Larger, stronger and more expensive cars” pretty much sums up the direction the premium car market is heading in in 2020. But was it quite the same back in 1983? Let’s find out.

This splendid Alpina B9 3.5 saloon emerged based on the elderly BMW E28 M5 in 1983. Alpina produced 500 of these, but only 64 were right-hand drive vehicles like this one, and of those 64, only 18 had five-speed manual Getrag transmissions. All things considered, it’s a highly exclusive car that we’re dealing with here.

The Alpina B9 3.5 came with a power boost to 245 hp (183 kW), which enabled it to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in just 6.3 seconds, as well as max out at 249 km/h (155 mph). This may sound a bit underwhelming by modern standards, but it really isn’t all that bad, and at its time of release, it could rival the best Porsche 911s out there.

The interior has also preserved its luxury makeover, which mostly relied on calm tones such as black, blue, and green. The asking price remains unannounced.
