Tesla pledges to return the old FM radio, but you’ll pay up for $3,000 for it

Tesla has announced the comeback of its classical AM/FM/Sirius XM radio app for its infotainment system. The option went missing after an update, and returning it will cost money.

Apparently, the company felt that the old radio did not go well with the rest of innovative solutions Tesla had in stock, including online streaming services, the Guard Mode, an in-built dash cam, OTA updates, and more. Older Teslas shipped with only some of these features installed, so the company started offering paid software upgrades to unlock them. The newest complex infotainment upgrade costs $2,500 and – surprisingly for many owners – automatically removes FM radio functionality from the feature list.

The company stresses that it does not see an issue with this, arguing that there are numerous streaming services to default to, but customers in areas with poor reception or expensive web traffic aren’t too happy. Starting soon, they will be able to get their classical radio back for a hefty fee of $500.
