Mazda finally releases its 7-year-old RX-Vision Concept… as a scale model

At the Tokyo Auto Show that took place more than seven years ago, Mazda unveiled a design study named the RX-Vision. Rewind to the present day, and the car is now officially available in Japan as a 1:18 replica priced at ¥69,500 (535 USD). Only 30 are available.

The replica is 37 cm long, 20.5 cm wide and 14.5 cm tall (inches: 14.45 x 8 x 5.66). Like its 2015MY predecessor, it is painted red and rides on large wheels. The front end is styled rather aggressively with a black grille and slim headlights, a stretched hood with air intakes in it. The rear end draws attention to its sporty diffuser and two round exhaust tips at the sides. The interior follows the minimalist theme and houses a three-spoke wheel.

The original RX-Vision (see video) debuted as a preview of the marque’s future cars. Mazda highlighted its design as the main distinguishing feature, followed by the rotary SkyActiv-R engine. We have yet to see that engine implemented in a production car, though, and the specifications haven’t been revealed yet.
