Peugeot 408 passes the moose test… sort of

The team of km77.com (Spain) has shot a video of a Peugeot 408 crossover liftback performing an obstacle evasion test. It managed a rather low top speed, but was nonetheless praised for reliability and safe, predictable handling.

The car tested had a petrol engine with 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW), an eight-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive and 205/55 R19 tires on.

The driver was ultimately unable to lead the car through the traffic cone corridor without hitting any cones at the required acceleration of 77 km/h (47.8 mph). The best he could do was 72 km/h (44.7 mph), so the test was technically a failure. Still, the crew praised the 408 for its decent handling, predictable behavior and rather limited swaying for its body style.

The car has also performed a slalom test in 25.9 seconds – not that fast, but understandable given a low-end engine and large dimensions. The driver said he appreciated the sharp steering response: in most cases, he only had to turn the wheel by one-fourth of a circle (90 degrees).
