Pontiac Fiero can’t commit to cosplaying Lamborghini Diablo, is all over the place

Few tuning trends are as persistent as imitating supercars on cheaper cars’ basis. This isn’t necessarily bad, either: take the Lamborghini Diablo, for example, which has spawned numerous great replicas over the years. But for today, let’s look at one that isn’t so great at all.

The author of the project started with a 1986 Pontiac Fiero, which he modified beyond all recognition, including the chassis that he stretched by about 12 inches (300 mm). He used budget-friendly molding foam to recreate the shapes, resulting in a weak imitation that only resembles the Diablo from behind, and only from a distance.

The rest is lamentable at best. The round taillights resemble those of the C5 Corvette, the headlights look like they were taken off a Toyota Celica GT, and the radiator grille reminds us of 30-year-old Nissans. As if that weren’t enough, the turn indicators and anti-fog lamps give off Volkswagen vibes.

No less impressive – for all the wrong reasons – is the interior with a single driver’s seat in the middle, a handbrake tucked in between the driver’s legs, and a black-and-white dashboard with dual displays at the sides. Ferrari? Nowhere to be seen.

Powering the Frankencar is a Chevy V8 churning out 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW) with its improved intake and exhaust systems. Still, the thing we are disappointed about the most is how much effort the creator of this monstrosity applied to a result as underwhelming as this. Given enough creative direction, he could probably build a masterpiece with all that dedication.
