KGM announces a new truck

KG Mobility, a Korean automaker that inherited the assets of SsangYong, is getting a pickup truck ready to rumble. It sports certain Ford and Jeep styling cues and looks like it could replace the current Musso (or Rexton Sports) when it goes on sale in a few months.

The teaser pic shows a rather over-the-top front fascia with a massive bumper, an illuminated radiator grille and L-shaped DRLs. It also puts us in the mind of the latest Ford F-150, although the overall outlines are those of the latest Musso. The truck bed seems larger than that of the Musso, which makes sense in its market segment.

Both the Musso and the Rexton are based on the same body-on-frame platform. We suppose that the new pickup – which is still nameless – will utilize an upgraded variant of the same chassis. It may also get a hybrid powertrain in addition to the company’s non-electrified current offerings.

Looking forward, SsangYong plans to elevate the Musso nameplate to a whole pickup sub-brand, populating it with vehicles of all categories with all kinds of powertrains. The automaker intends to export these trucks to a number of regions worldwide, including Europe.
