Tesla installs robots on its Cybertruck assembly line

Tesla purchased 66 Kuka-brand industrial robots in Germany for its Gigafactory Texas, Electrek responds citing mail correspondence. In all likelihood, the robots will be used to assemble the long-anticipated Cybertruck pickup starting in mid-2023.

The publication points out that Kuka is the main supplier of robotic equipment for the Tesla factory in Texas. Back in 2021, the company installed manipulators of this brand on its Model Y assembly line. Having said that, 66 industrial robots is not enough for a typical car production line, so we may expect to see more shipments soon.

For its own part, InsideEVs notes that Tesla posted a number of jobs online hinting at the production start of the Cybertruck. Among other things the carmaker is looking for robotic equipment engineers, robot maintenance specialists and production managers. All ads specifically mention the electric pickup truck.

The Cybertruck has been stuck in development hell for years now. Tesla failed to start the production in 2020 and is currently hoping to start making the first small batches in mid-2023. Once the processes are all ironed out, it hopes to launch full-scale production – most likely in late 2023.
