Toyota opens another tech center

Toyota has completed the construction of Shimoyama Technology Center in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

The foundation was laid six years ago. At first, the company opened a racetrack there that mimicked the legendary Nürburgring for testing purposes. Later on, it added more proving grounds to imitate mountain and suburban roads.

Now that the main facility is complete, there is no missing the fact that it looks like a copy of the Nürburgring pit lane – both inside and outside.

The Shimoyama Center occupies an area of 6.5 square kilometers (2.5 square miles). 60 percent of the area is occupied with assorted greenery. The construction costs came to roughly $2 billion, according to sources. Once at full capacity, the facility will employ 3,000 workers.
