2026 Volvo EX90 is smarter and charges faster

Volvo has unveiled the new EX90 model, bringing the electric SUV on par with the best of the competition in terms of specs and features. Although some details remain to be revealed, preorders are already running.

The refreshed EX90 takes advantage of 900-volt underpinnings, which allows its 107-kWh battery pack to receive 350 kW of charging power instead of 250. It now restores enough power for 250 km (155 miles) of driving in just 10 minutes of charging, a 70-km (43.5-mile) improvement over the old version. Aside from this, Volvo briefly mentions “lighter and more powerful electric drive units” but doesn’t provide any further specifics.

Environment data processing and assessment is handled by a couple of Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chips together rated at an impressive 500 TOPS of computing power. This enables the EX90 to detect slippery road surface quickly and warn drivers about any other potential hazards. The collision prevention system now works much better at night, and the car can be configured to stop by the roadside and call emergency services if the driver unexpectedly releases control, Volvo says.

Customers in select countries will also be able to order the new EX90 with a dimmable panoramic roof, like the one installed on the ES90 sedan revealed this spring.
