Volvo P1800 Cyan restomod sprouts a ‘GT’ spin-off

Swedish company Cyan Racing, a long-standing partner of Volvo Cars, has unveiled another version of its restomod based on the Volvo P1800 from the 1960s. Called the GT, it was hand-assembled for a client in the USA who wanted a more comfortable retro car to ride. Motor1 says the price is unknown, but could be close to $700,000 even before most options.

Compared to the original Volvo P1800 Cyan from four years ago (see video), the GT sports an improved dual-wishbone suspension design on Öhlins components. It also benefits from better noise proofing and has more traditional seats inside instead of racing buckets. The titanium roll cage is still there, but has been redesigned for more comfort getting in and out of the car.

On the whole, the cabin looks cozier thanks to a delicious cloth/leather trim combo now covering most panels in sight – including those left bare in the original restomod. Impressively enough, Cyan managed to keep the curb weight of the P1800 close to one metric ton (2,200 lbs) after all these mods. It helped that the entire body was fabricated from carbon fiber.

Like the first restomod produced, the GT relies on a 2.0T petrol four-pot that can be found in the Volvo S60 TC1 racecar lineup. Depending on the tune, it can output 350–420 PS (345–414 hp; 257–309 kW). A custom Holinger five-speed manual transmission carries the torque to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. Power steering and ABS are still absent. Cyan says one such vehicle takes 12–15 months to produce.
