Xpeng G6 debuts alongside a new car architecture

It hasn’t been long since automaker Xpeng started making electric vehicles, but the sales volumes have been rather impressive lately. To keep them up, the company has now added a new production car to its portfolio, a crossover SUV named the G6.

The model makes use of a new tech platform known as SEPA 2.0. That said, while the chassis design is new, the electric system and the autopilot tech are both the same as in the old version.

It seems obvious that the engineering department looked the way of the Tesla Model Y when working on this design. The dimensions, the slanted roof, the body style and proportions – everything here looks copied from Elon Musk’s creation. Unlike that car, however, the Xpeng G6 boasts frameless doors and a sunroof in its starting trim level. It also has a pop-up spoiler at the tailgate.

Inside, the trim and styling are minimalistic and the attention is mainly drawn to a 10.2-inch digital dash and a nearly 15-inch head unit display.

Customers will be able to choose between a single-motor RWD and a dual-motor AWD variant of the SUV. The former makes 296 PS (292 hp / 218 kW) and the latter produces a superior 487 PS (480 hp / 358 kW), letting it sprint to highway speed in 3.9 seconds. There is no mention of a driving range yet.
