The MGA Open 2-Seater gets revived for its 70th birthday

While the MG brand name is currently owned by China, there are enthusiasts around us who still remember that the marque used to make fashionable and desirable roadsters in the UK. Local tuning and restoration specialist Frontline Cars has decided to celebrate 70 years of the MGA Open 2-Seater by producing a gorgeous restomod dripping with the 1950s-era charms.

In addition to the mandatory full body restoration, the car ended up with a posh interior featuring natural leather, wood, and brushed aluminum accents. Much of the work was done by hand with meticulous attention to detail.

Powering the Factory Edition (that’s what Frontline calls its restomod) is a 2.0-liter engine rated at 228 PS (225 hp / 168 kW). If that’s not enough, you can order a bigger 2.5-liter mill with 294 PS (290 hp / 216 kW) at its command. The original never had more than 1.6 liters of displacement and 80 horses (~60 kW), so the difference will be staggering regardless.

Raw performance clearly wasn’t the center of attention here, but the MGA Factory Edition still manages to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than five seconds – the original barely managed a 15-second sprint. This is partially owing to a new suspension, which uses a double-wishbone setup at the front and a multilink one at the rear end. Brakes are disc-based all around, and the exhaust system seems to be new as well (although it does rock a retro-style muffler).

You can already preorder a car like this from Frontline Cars. It’s unclear how much it costs and how many will be made, so better act quickly if you are interested.
