Abarth’s latest creation doesn’t set lap times – it measures them

Abarth and Breil have teamed up to design a new chronometer called the Breil Abarth 1000. It celebrates a quartet of world records that Carlo Abarth managed to set on the Monza Circuit in October 1965. Only 465 examples will be offered, each priced at €399.

Carlo Abarth, then 57 years old, piloted his Abarth 1000 Monoposto single-seater to victory using a simple 1.0-liter engine rated at 105 PS (104 hp / 77 kW). It may not sound like much, but with the whole car weighing just 500 kilograms (1,102 pounds), it actually outclassed every other racer of the era in its weight category.

On his first track day, Abarth managed to run the fastest quarter-mile (13.62 seconds) and the fastest half-kilometer (15.38 seconds) in automotive history. He had his 1.0-liter engine swapped out for a bigger 2.0-liter mill on the following day, and proceeded to set two more records – albeit in a different category.

Back to the wristwatch, though. It features a casing machined from stainless steel and molded from carbon fiber to resemble the gauges of the original 1000 Monoposto. It boasts a high waterproof rating and comes with a custom rear lid mentioning the records and bearing a unique serial number. The bracelet is made of blackened steel.
