The Huawei-Seres alliance has unveiled its latest electric vehicle for China. It’s the full-size crossover SUV called the Aito M8, formerly available only as a plug-in hybrid. Customers can preorder it with two trim levels to choose from, two interior layouts and two powertrains. Prices vary from 359,800 to 449,800 Yuan.
According to Huawei, it designed the electric motors to be as power-efficient as possible while remaining compact and lightweight. The power is provided by a CATL battery pack.
The most wallet-friendly version runs a single rear-axle motor with 308 PS (304 hp / 227 kW). A 100-kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery gives it up to 705 km (438 miles) of manufacturer-rate range.
Opting for AWD adds a motor to the front axle, lifting the output to 526 PS (519 hp / 387 kW). It uses the same battery as above, so the range goes down to 655 km (407 miles).
Like the Aito M8 Hybrid, the EV version is available with five and six seats.
Aito claims it has received over 7,000 preorders so far. The M8 lineup seems to be thriving right now, with as many as 12 versions of the SUV to choose from.
