Audi announces a new EV, and it’s a bicycle

Audi has expanded its offer of electric means of transportation this week, introducing a mountain bike co-designed with Italian company Fantic. Another Volkswagen AG member – Porsche – is already mass-producing e-bikes and even owns multiple businesses specializing in them.

The new Audi bike is still nameless, boasts an aluminum frame, a carbon seat post and staggered wheels: 27.5 inches at the front and 29 inches at the back. The suspension travel amounts to an impressive 180 millimeters (7 inches), according to the passport.

On the outside, the bicycle looks much like the Audi RS Q e-tron Dakar SUV with its color scheme of grey and crimson red.

A 250V motor on board makes 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) of torque and draws its power from a 36V battery pack rated at 720 watt-hours of capacity. There is no mention of range yet.

The asking price in Great Britain is a cool £8,499. Having said that, the Porsche bikes are still more expensive. The company is currently offering two models – for asphalt and off-road riding – but plans to expand the lineup in the near future. To that end, it has recently purchased multiple businesses specializing in e-bikes, notably including Greyp founded by none other but Mate Rimac.
