The Ingolstadt automaker reasons that its complex Singleframe grille is dated enough to warrant its replacement with something more geometric and expressive.
The new part stems from Concept C (see video). According to Massimo Frascella, the Design Director at Audi as quoted by Auto Motor und Sport, the company prioritizes modularity in its newest design language. This means that it may produce vehicles of wildly different sizes, shapes and classes while still giving them unmistakably recognizable common traits, like this grille.
It remains to be seen what model will be the first to wear the new rectangular grille. Odds are good that it will be a production coupe based on the Concept C. Audi talked about wanting to revive the TT legacy with this car. It’s going to be interesting to see it try that using a completely different design language and an all-electric powertrain.
Important decisions have been made regarding the interior, too. While all recent Audis shipped with a touchscreen-dominated interior, the next generation will dial it back using a “reasonable” mix of smaller displays and traditional physical controls. We are promised a layout that will be simultaneously laconic and efficient.
