The CarWOW team has pitted an F80 BMW M3 Competition up against a tuned Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 and Ford Mustang.
The F80 M3 is the freshest M on the lineup, and its Competition version is capable of 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends the momentum to the rear axle. The sedan weighs in at 1,730 kg (3,814 lbs) and starts close to £75,000 in the UK.
The Mustang GT normally uses a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, but this example received a supercharger upgrade to 735 PS (725 hp / 541 kW) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission was allowed to stay stock (six-speed automatic), but OEM tires made room for drag-friendly slicks. The Mustang has a curb weight of 1,775 kg (3,913 lbs) and starts around £80,000.
The Skyline R34 GT-R has a weight advantage of around 200 kilos (440 lbs) compared to its rivals, benefits from AWD, and puts on semi-slicks for the race. Its 2.7-liter six-pot enjoys a boost to 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, which a six-speed manual transmission sends to the wheels.
Interestingly enough, as different as the contenders were, the results were pretty close.
