CEO Oliver Zipse steps out after 35 years at BMW

Oliver Zipse, 62, who joined BMW in 1991 as an intern and worked his way to the Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2019, has officially resigned from his office. The reason for the resignation and Zipse’s next plans remain unknown.

While still at the helm of the Bavarian automotive giant, Zipse successfully led the company through multiple crises, including the Covid pandemic of 2020. He supervised the creation of the current generation of BMW cars by designer Domagoj Dukec, and helped usher in a new design direction known as the Neue Klasse (see video).

It’s already official that Milan Nedeljković will serve as the new BMW CEO until at least 2031. Nedeljković has worked in the company since 1993, and has a similar background to Zipse.
