BMW XM bows as an ‘affordable’ super-SUV

Along with the reveal of the range-topping BMW XM Label Red, the Bavarian automaker released the first teaser video of a low-end XM spec known as the 50e. The details are scarce, but Motor1 says the car will use the drivetrain of the M760e sedan with some tweaks.

Compared to the standard XM, the 50e looks different only in exterior finish. Its greenish-yellow body sports numerous gloss-black inserts and lacks red accents.

The company says the all-electric driving range will amount to 76–84 km (47–52 miles). The BMW XM Label Red is rated just 1 km below that, so the two probably use the same 25.7-kWh battery pack.

Motor1 believes that the low-end XM model will keep the 197-PS (194-hp / 145-kW) electric motor of its ‘big brother’ while settling for a smaller petrol engine. It may inherit the 3.0-liter inline-six mill of the M760e sedan, resulting in 560 PS (552 hp / 412 kW) or so at the wheels, making the 50e only around 100 horsepower less strong than the current base spec.

When the SUV will be fully revealed is unknown. When it first debuted, we expected Europe to be its main target market.
