China unleashes yet another full-size hybrid SUV

BYD has posted the first photos of the Great Tang, its upcoming large SUV running on hybrid power. The sales should start soon, so let’s throw a glance at the images and the specs while we wait.

According to the MIIT of China, the Great Tang is 5,263 mm (205.6 inches) long in its base spec, going to 5,302 mm (207.1 inches) with some optional trim bits. The wheelbase amounts to 3,130 mm (122.3 inches), while the ground clearance is easily adjustable thanks to air suspension. Rear-wheel steering seems to be included as standard, too.

Inside, there is a trio of touchscreens in the front row, a heads-up display and a dedicated ceiling-mounted TV for the rear rows. The steering wheel is squared-off from below, and there are some physical buttons on the center tunnel. There are seven seats in total, all coming with power adjustments and heating. The middle row enjoys access to folding tables, a thermal box and an HVAC control panel.

Once out, the BYD Great Tang will compete with the likes of Aito M9, Lixiang L9 and Zeekr 9X on its domestic market. Check out the video for the brand’s regular Tang SUV, also a lavish seven-seater.
