After nearly 10 years since the announcement, the Devel Sixteen hypercar is finally shipping. The example featured in our gallery here is currently undergoing final tests and adjustment before delivery. The catch? It has a V8 instead of a V16.
The buyer says he never wanted a V16 in the first place, because owning a car like that in his region was tricky. He never specified what country or region he was referring to, but if you know which countries prohibit Bugatti cars from being driven on the streets, it’s probably one of those.
When Devel announced the Sixteen almost a decade ago, it promised a powertrain capable of more than 5,000 horsepower (5,070 PS / 3,728 kW). A tamer V8-based version was also in the works with 2,000 hp (2,028 PS / 1,491 kW) or so, but the company admits this specific example has to be tuned some more in order to be able to churn out that much.
Once finalized and delivered, the coupe will be able to take its buyer to a top speed of 400 km/h (248 mph). Another big question is where this would be possible to do, aside from carefully prepped runways and dedicated racetracks.
