Chery sub-brand Exeed has posted the first camo-free images of its next crossover SUV. It will be known in China as the Sterra E05 but will eventually become a global model after its debut at the IAA Mobility Expo in Munich, Germany in September.
When the car was first spotted on the streets, we supposed that the designation “Sterra E05” was temporary, but it’s now been confirmed as the official name of the production car. While billed as an all-new model, it’s essentially a facelifted Exeed TXL with no front grille, a different front bumper and completely new headlights. The taillight stripe at the back looks familiar, and there is a LiDAR on the roof.
The whole SUV measures 4,780 mm (186.7 inches) long, 1,890 mm (73.8 in) wide and 1,725 mm (67.4 in) tall. It has 2.8 meters (109.4 in) between the axles and can be optioned with wheels up to 19 inches in diameter.
The certification data suggests that the Exeed Sterra E05 will ship with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and an unspecified electric motor. A 32.6-kWh battery pack gives it up to 165 km (102 miles) of all-electric range. Horizon Robotics supplies the LiDAR and 12 radars for a semi-autonomous driving experience.
Exeed sells its existing Sterra-series vehicles under the “Exlantix” badge outside of China, so the exports model might end up named Exlantix E05. There is still no official confirmation, though. A rumor also claims that Exeed plans to produce a non-electrified version of the E05 later on and market it as a direct successor of the TXL in China.
