Ultra-rare Ferrari Daytona SP3 sells for record $26M

RM Sotheby’s has accepted a $26,000,000 bid for a particularly rare Daytona SP3 supercar at the Monterey Car Week. CarBuzz ran the calculations and is saying that it’s the Italian automaker’s most expensive zero-mileage vehicle ever and the 11th priciest auction Ferrari in history.

The Daytona SP3 debuted as a limited-edition model four years ago. It was an evolutionary next step of the company’s Icona lineup created as a homage to past races and race cars. Aside from a nostalgic appearance, it packed an insane naturally aspirated V12 rated at 840 PS (829 hp / 618 kW) – the highest of any Ferrari on the 2021MY lineup.

Only 599 examples were slated for production, all of them presold ahead of the public announcement. However, the company ultimately decided to produce a 600th car, named the 599+1. It’s the one you see here right now.

When it was new, the 599+1 changed hands for the equivalent of U.S. $2.25 million, less than one-tenth of its Monterey auction price.

Compared to the rest of the production batch, this unique Daytona SP3 received a unique paint job complemented with a matching interior trim. The body was painted black and yellow with large Ferrari lettering running down the middle – a first for the Italian company. The cabin ended up wearing synthetic fiber made from recycled racing tires. It was also sprinkled with Formula-grade carbon fiber accents and trims.

All proceedings from the auction will be handed over to a charity fund specializing in U.S. education accessibility incentives.
