Ferrari recalls hundreds of SF90 Stradale over fire risks

Ferrari and the NHTSA have announced a stop-sale and a major recall campaign encompassing 614 SF90 Stradale coupes and their Spider counterparts. The supercars can spontaneously combust under certain conditions, so the owners are advised to avoid driving them until the defect has been eliminated.

The issue lies in one of the oil hoses of the turbocharger system, which is apparently not thick enough and might rupture under pressure, leaking oil onto a hot engine and starting a fire.

All vehicles made for 2022–2024 model years from November 7, 2022 through September 19, 2023 are potentially affected. Their owners are urged to cease use of the cars so as not to aggravate the issue. The fix is as simple as replacing the standard oil conduit with a more robust, higher quality one.

According to CarBuzz, Ferrari gave a comment and explained that all SF90 units assembled since mid-September come with proper oil ducts. However, all dealerships in the USA were still issued a stop-sale order to double-check their existing SF90 stock for any related issues.

The press release emphasizes that neither Ferrari nor the NHTSA are aware of any incidents potentially linked to any kind of oil leakage. The oil conduit was identified as a potential point of concern during a routine check performed by the manufacturer.
