The new Ferrari 849 Testarossa is billed as a successor of the SF90 Stradale and the Italian brand’s new flagship scheduled for launch in 2026.
The car combines a 4.0-liter, turbocharged, dry-sump V8 with three electric motors. The combined output comes to 1,050 PS (1,036 hp / 772 kW), which Ferrari claims to be its absolute highest so far. We suppose the company only considers mass-produced models, because the limited edition F80 had 1,200 PS (1,184 hp / 883 kW) when it debuted.
The V8 comes from the SF90 Stradale and benefits from multiple further upgrades. Improved turbos, cylinder heads, cooling system and Inconel exhaust manifold result in superior heat efficiency and better synergy with the motors. Just like the SF90, the 849 Testarossa uses two e-motors to drive the front wheels, while the solitary motor on the rear axle doubles as a power generator. The whole system ensures a sporty AWD experience with full torque vectoring.
A 7.45-kWh battery pack on board runs out of juice after 25 kilometers (15.5 miles of range) using the front motors only. On the upside, this allows the whole car to weigh only 1,570 kilograms, or 3,461 pounds. The per-axle weight distribution is close to perfect at 45:55.
Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes less than 2.3 seconds, Ferrari claims. Doubling that number takes 6.35 seconds, and the top speed lies above 330 km/h (205 mph). Aside from the coupe version, the 849 Testarossa is slated to receive a Spider body type. It will tip the scales at 1,660 kilos (3,660 pounds) due to a retractable hardtop and reach 200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.5 seconds.
Opting for an Assetto Fiorano package will shave off roughly 30 kilos (66 pounds) of weight. In addition to this, Ferrari replaces the driver’s seat and the wheels with lighter counterparts, upgrades the aero kit, installs stiffer springs and shocks and offers an optional front-axle lift system for those who have to contend with speed bumps.
