Gateway Bronco rolls out a restomod that’s been four years in the making

Tuning company Gateway Bronco has rolled out another fully restored and modernized Ford Bronco SUV. Dubbed Luxe-GT, it is touted as the world’s coolest vintage Bronco around. It took four years for the company to build it together with Australia-based Premcar.

The Luxe-GT features a custom ladder frame with its wheelbase extended to 2,350 mm (91.8 inches). The frame was required to accommodate a modern engine under the hood – a 5.0-liter Ford Coyote V8 rated at 466 PS (460 hp / 343 kW). A ten-speed automatic transmission drives all four wheels, letting the retro off-roader hit 97 km/h (60 mph) in 5.3 seconds.

Elsewhere, the car takes advantage of modern suspension parts, 18-inch wheels, performance brakes and a plethora of driving assists, including ABS and traction control. A valve-controlled exhaust system is also included.

The top is mounted on the roll cage and is removable, explaining why the cabin is trimmed with water-resistant leather and fabric. The doors auto-close, the windows are power-assisted and there is an AC on board. The multimedia system is connected to a Focal audio system and displays the footage from a reversing camera.

The teams behind the project says they had to test-drive multiple prototypes across desert and forest landscaped of Australia. The goal was to ensure the car could hit 200 km/h (124 mph) on rough terrain.
