Ford Mustang buyers still have two V8 options in the model year 2024: the iconic GT and the more recent, more powerful Dark Horse. Which version is the faster one and by how much? Hennessey Performance felt like finding out, so it arranged for a drag race.
The GT comes packing a five-liter V8 that slams the wheels with 480 American horsepower (487 PS / 358 kW). In turn, the Dark Horse takes advantage of a Coyote V8 to deliver 500 hp (507 PS / 373 kW) to the asphalt. Both use a 10-speed AT to drive the rear wheels.
Hennessey wouldn’t be Hennessey if it didn’t try to tune one of the contenders at least somewhat. In this case, the Dark Horse received GT500 forged connecting rods and some ECU software tweaks.
That said, both cars have been specced with additional options straight from the factory. The GT wound up with the GT Performance package adding Brembo brakes, 19-inch wheels, a Torsen differential, unique suspension settings and more.
In turn, the Dark Horse received the Handling Package with new tires, stiffer suspension springs, improved sway bars and a built-in Gurney flap in the rear wing.
