Meet the first Geely Galaxy production vehicle, an SUV with up to 664 PS

Geely has published the main specifications of the first car opening its new ‘Galaxy’ lineup. The sub-brand’s firstborn is an SUV called the L7 that shares many of its technical bits with the Geely Atlas and runs on Volvo E-CMA underpinnings.

The soft-roader is 4.7 meters long with 2,785 mm of wheelbase. It sports futuristic headlights and borrows some of the bodywork straight from the Atlas it is based upon.

Things get interesting under the hood, where a new powertrain called NordThor Hybrid 8848 toils. The system is based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivering a manufacturer-rated thermal efficiency of 44.26%. Two electric motors assist the main engine in driving the front wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. That’s right: despite technically having three motors, the Galaxy L7 is a front-wheel-drive SUV unless you pay a premium for AWD.

In its most basic spec, the L7 sends 390 PS (385 hp / 287 kW) to the wheels. Maxing out the power nets you 664 PS (655 hp / 488 kW). The only sprint time announced thus far is ‘7.5 seconds’, which sounds rather slow even for the entry spec. The average petrol consumption is 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers (45.2 MPG), and a full tank can take you as far as 1,370 km (851 miles).

Inside, there is a laconic dash panel with no physical buttons on it, but as many as four displays if you include the HUD. There is a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 13.2-inch head unit and a 16.2-inch front passenger screen. A paddle shifter on the right-hand side of the steering column lets you switch between the various drive modes, and the only traditional buttons around can be found on the wheel hub.
