Two Chinese SUVs excel at Euro NCAP, one passes with 4 stars out of 5

Euro NCAP has tested the all-electric Exlantix ET alongside two hybrids, Chery Tiggo 4 and Geely EX5 EM-i, to find that they are all capable vehicles when it comes to saving lives.

Starting with the mild-hybrid Tiggo 4 known in some European markets as the Ebro s400 HEV, it landed four stars out of five. Child protection was deemed great with a rating of 85%, but driver and front passenger safety topped at just 79%. Electronic features also fell short of excellent with 80%, and so did pedestrian safety (78%). The test crew pointed out a considerable risk of driver’s chest injury across a variety of possible crash scenarios, and some whiplash injury risk to the neck in a head-on collision.

The Exlantix ET, otherwise known as the Sterra ET, has demonstrated somewhat better results. The tests were only conducted with the full-electric version and not the hybrid, which is also available in some regions. It scored 90% in front row occupant safety, 85% in child safety and 79% in the performance of electronic safeguards. Pedestrian safety landed at 78%, but the model was still awarded the maximum possible five stars out of five.

Last but not least, the Geely EX5 EM-i a.k.a. Starray EM-I has aced the test with 90, 87, 77 and 86 percent in the above listed categories, respectively. The experts praised its consistently high safety performance in head-on collisions.
