Honda unveils the 4th-gen Pilot

The North American division of Honda is celebrating as many as three next-gen SUV launches this year: the HR-V and CR-V both came out in summer, and the fourth-gen Pilot joins the range now.

The car is 86 mm (3.4 in) longer than before with 71 mm (2.8 in) of added wheelbase thanks to a substantially different platform. The exterior looks bulkier overall, and while the interior still offers up to eight seats, the third row occupants now enjoy 15 mm (0.6 in) of extra legroom.

In its most basic version, the SUV comes equipped with a gauge combo represented by a digital screen and an analog speedometer. The infotainment system screen measures 7 inches corner-to-corner. Paying extra gets you an all-digital dash and an infotainment display sized either 9 or 10.2 inches across.

Other new features include a heads-up display, higher-quality trim materials, eight airbags and a slew of electronic aids.

The power is still coming from a 3.5-liter V6 engine, but the unit is slightly improved and now delivers 289 PS (285 hp / 213 kW) and up to 355 Nm (262 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels – five horsepower more than in the previous design iteration. The automatic transmission also has ten speeds now instead of nine.

The new Honda Pilot will hit the showroom floors in December.
