Honda lifts the veil over the Pilot TrailSport production process

The Japanese automaker has shared a video detailing the creation process of the next-generation Pilot Trailsport SUV. You can see the crossover actually driven on rough terrain.

The engineers of the company say their ambition is to build an SUV they themselves would be interested in buying and driving off-road. During preliminary testing, they discovered that none of the drive modes offered by the original Pilot could satisfy all of their requirements, which is why they developed brand-new algorithms for the next generation.

This is how the Pilot received a feature called Trailwatch. Once activated, it shows you the car from outside, letting you see how safe or dangerous its current position on the trail is. In a tricky situation like this, drivers of conventional SUVs would have to step out to assess the situation or ask someone else to tell them how to proceed – neither an optimal solution in the middle of the wilderness.

In addition to the above, the new Trailsport comes with suspension adjustments, bottom guard plates and more ground clearance. The engine will most likely stay the same, meaning a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 289 PS (285 hp / 213 kW).
