Rumor: Infiniti Q50 to become an electrified Nissan Skyline spin-off

Infiniti is working on the next generation of the Q50, which Automotive News believes will be battery-electric and go on sale in 2025 or so. The Japanese version will continue to be called ‘Nissan Skyline’. Other sources claim it will be a hybrid instead.

While none of it is official yet, much makes sense within the context. The sources claiming that the sedan will be fully electric in its next generation also report that Infiniti plans to launch an SUV on the same platform to compete with the Lexus RX. It will allegedly be called ‘QX65’ (the trademark is already registered). Both the Q50 EV and the QX65 will purportedly be styled after the Qs Inspiration concept that premiered four years ago – you can find it in the gallery and video below.

Carscoops adds that the automaker already showed pre-production samples of these electric cars to dealerships during a special event in the USA not long ago. Each came equipped with two motors. The production in the United States was set to begin in a few years.

For its own part, BestCarWeb reports citing inside sources that the new saloon will be a hybrid, like the Qs Inspiration, rather than all-electric. This report says the model will combine two electric motors jointly rated at slightly more than 200 horsepower (150 kilowatts) and a petrol engine likely functioning as a range-extender.
