The 2022 Jeep Commander is a seven-seater SUV for Latin America

Jeep sends quite a mixed message to its international fans with the name “Commander”, using it for a variety of entirely different vehicles depending on the region. In Latin America as of August 2021, the Commander is a seven-seat modification of the recently facelifted Jeep Compass.

The newcomer sports original headlamps and DRLs, new bumpers at both ends, metal décor, and larger rear doors. The taillights also look nothing like those of the Compass. The badges reading ‘TD’ and ‘4x4’ suggest it’s an all-wheel-drive turbo diesel, although the manufacturer has not revealed any of the specifics yet.

In case you wondered, the U.S.-spec Jeep Commander a.k.a. Jeep XK was a mid-size SUV that was discontinued in 2010. In Europe, a similar model was known as the XH. In China, Jeep offers a duo of crossover SUVs named the Commander and Grand Commander, but both are unrelated to their Western namesakes and instead come based on Fiat’s Compact US Wide platform.
