2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee ditches two cylinders, still gains power

Jeep has officially rolled out its facelifted Cherokee SUV. The bestseller can now trade its 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 for a Hurricane four-pot designed by Stellantis as a gas-saving alternative. It also received an exterior overhaul and some nice tech features for the cabin.

Starting with the Hurricane 4 Turbo, it is a 2.0-liter engine that takes advantage of a variable-geometry turbocharger and, rather uncommonly, a pre-chamber ignition system. This enables it to deliver 329 PS (324 hp / 242 kW) and 450 Nm (331 lb-ft) of torque, which is 32 PS (32 hp / 24 kW) more than the current V6 can manage.

According to the company, the new mill also burns through 10% less gasoline on average compared to Stellantis’ earlier four-cylinder designs. On a full tank, the new Grand Cherokee should be good for 814 kilometers (505 miles) of range.

The transmission details remain unknown. Those who would rather get the old V6 or the 375-PS (370-hp / 276-kW) hybrid version may do so – both are still available.

On the outside, the new SUV sports revised front and rear ends and updated lighting. Inside, the main improvement comes in the form of a 12.3-inch standard infotainment screen (up from 8.4 and 10.1 inches in the previous version). An optional 10.25-inch display is offered for the front passenger.

Sales will begin before the end of the year, the company says.
