Unique Lincoln Mark X droptop crops up on sale again

The one-off Lincoln Mark X Concept introduced in 2004 with a folding glass top will be heading to auction once again. It had previously changed hands for U.S. $102,000 and $129,000.

The car was designed by Lincoln with a wide and squat body, a polished-aluminum grille, and masked headlights. It was also one of the world’s first vehicles to make use of pull-out door handles – a design that’s ubiquitous nowadays, but was considered exotic two decades ago.

A power-assisted hardtop consists almost entirely of transparent glass panels and folds down automatically in 30 seconds.

The interior combines cream-hued leather upholstery with polished aluminum accents. There is an unusual-looking transmission selector and a rare multimedia system featuring a 7-inch color display – also a luxury by the standards of 2004.

Other than that, the car runs on a standard Ford Thunderbird chassis and uses its 3.9-liter V8 to deliver 284 PS (280 hp / 209 kW) to the rear wheels by means of a 5MT.
