Check out the world’s only McLaren P1 roadster in action

UK-based aftermarket company Lanzante has turned the ultra-expensive McLaren P1, which went out of production eight years ago, into a roadster and let Hagerty on YouTube film a test drive video about it. The tuner calls it ‘a prototype’ and says five more such cars will be built for private clients, as promised last summer.

Paul House, the original designer of the P1, and Chris Goodwin, the automaker’s test driver who helped test the hypercar, have both participated in the project.

The car wound up with purpose-designed carbon-fiber aero cowlings, slightly modified fenders, reshaped doors and a different engine bay lid. A removable roof has also been implemented. The interior makes use of SuperFabric trim resistant to moisture and UV radiation. A number of smaller modifications, such as a displaced charging port, have been made as well.

The P1 continues to rely on its standard powertrain, which combines a 3.8-liter V8 with an electric motor for a combined 916 PS (903 hp / 674 kW) and 978 Nm (721 lb-ft) of torque. For the coupe version, the standard sprint succeeds in a breezy 2.8 seconds and the top speed is an insane 350 km/h (217 mph). Whether the same applies to the roadster is unknown.

Owning a ride like this starts from £2.4 million (U.S. $2.9 million) before options, donor P1 already included.
