Would you give U.S. $515,000 for this Mansory-tuned G-Wagen Cabrio?

There are so many things you could buy for 515,000 U.S. dollars – four modern Mercedes-Benz G550, for example, or three AMG G63s, or a house in a neat, warm country… Now, how about this awkward Mercedes G500 Cabriolet by Mansory?

The car was reportedly released in 2012 and customized for an Italian client a year after that. Its name – Speranza – is Italian for “hope”, and judging by the price tag, there’s indeed some serious hoping going on. But let’s review its merits first.

Aside from a coffee-colored body, the SUV boasts a widebody kit with fender flares, bumpers, a hood with air intakes, side sills, and a spare wheel holder. Almost everything is made of carbon fiber. Then there are new headlights and massive 23-inch, ten-spoke rollers wrapped in performance tires.

The cabin combines beige and brown and features a modern infotainment unit with satellite navigation. The soft top can be removed by hand during sunny summer days.

The engine is stock, and the odometer shows mere 1,850 km (1,150 miles) of use, rendering the SUV barely used. The question is, is it worth the premium? Our stance is “definitely not”, but your mileage may vary.
