RM Sotheby’s will be looking for a new owner for this rare 2.3-liter version of the Mercedes-Benz 190 E in September. The car was piloted by none other than legendary F1 racer Niki Lauda back in 1984, so it is expected to fetch at least 500,000 USD.
Mercedes brought a special version of its 190 E model to the Frankfurt Motor Show in late 1983. It had a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 185 PS (182 hp / 136 kW) and could sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than eight seconds. The top speed was 230 km/h (143 mph).
In the spring of 1984, the automaker hosted a Race of Champions on the Nürburgring, inviting many Formula 1 legends to participate. The guest list included Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, and others.
Lauda’s saloon going on sale next month has changed multiple owners over the years, but retained its original appearance.
