Mercedes-Benz has revised its vehicle electrification strategy for the rest of the decade. According to Reuters, the German automaker is now targeting a 50% share of EVs in its portfolio by 2030, down from the previous goal of 100%.
The reasons seem apparent. With EV sales slowing down worldwide, automakers who set overly optimistic targets are inevitably failing to meet them. Just a few years before, Mercedes-Benz had envisioned half of its inventory becoming electric by mid-decade. The dream has failed to materialize, however.
Quoting Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius, Reuters says the company is now resolved to continue manufacturing internal combustion engines and even design new ones. According to unofficial reports, the company is now getting ready to refresh its ICE car lineup around 2027 and keep making them well into the 2030s.
