The Rally Group B era is famous for its powerful and aggressive cars like the Audi Sport Quattro, the Lancia Delta S4 and the Peugeot 205 T16. Compared side-by-side with these rivals, the MG Metro 6R4 (see video) looks like a tiny and tame hatchback with comically bulging fenders. Nonetheless, a company called MST wants to bring it back as a restomod.
The naked torso of the road-ready rally racer is all we are allowed to see so far, but there is no missing its striking similarity to the original. While the original 1980s-era track weapon had a glass-fiber reinforced plastic body, its modern reproduction comes molded from carbon fiber.
Rather than putting a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 under the hood like the original had, MST plans to use the Audi EA837 turbo mill with the same cylinder configuration and displacement. A six-speed sequential transmission will convey the torque to all four wheels. Suspension and brake parameters remain to be announced.
The company intends to offer two 6R4 restomod variants to the customers: a road-legal version with a furnished interior and a stripped track-focused build.
