Opel’s next supercar is a video game concept

The Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo seen here is said to “embody the spirit of the GSE sports car division” and is scheduled to make an appearance at the IAA Munich expo in September – albeit only as a life-size mockup missing an engine. It will also be added to the Gran Turismo fleet of virtual cars.

Like any car exempt from the obligation of being real, it is a looker. Generously flared arches, staggered low-drag wheels installed in 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the back, and an exaggerated front bumper sum up for a rather bold exterior. It’s even lower and wider than the standard Opel Corsa, and the designers say the rear spoiler and diffuser can extend further when extra downforce is needed.

The front fascia is known as the Opel Compass. It’s basically an Opel Visor further improved with crisscross LED lines and other eye-catching features.

The interior is futuristic, minimal and track-focused. There are no screens in sight, because all instruments are displayed on the windshield via a HUD projector. Opel jokingly calls it a “digital detox experience”. The dashboard is trimmed with multiple layers of fabric and displays ADAS warnings using LED lights.

Two e-motors deliver a combined 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW). The designers claim that it’s enough to go 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in mere two seconds and eventually reach 322 km/h (200 mph). A short-lived Boost Mode can be engaged to add another 80 PS (79 hp / 59 kW) for four seconds, aiding in overtakes. The battery pack size is 82 kilowatt-hours, and the suspension uses Bilstein components.

Since the EV is not real, it can pull off a curb weight as low as 1,170 kilograms (2,580 lbs).

Gran Turismo players will get it this fall; the specific date is still unknown.
