Opel resurrects the Manta with an e-motor, 4-speed stick shift

Opel has chosen to celebrate fifty years of the original Manta coupe and to demonstrate its technical expertise by building the all-electric Manta GSe ElektroMOD.

The one-off restomod sports plenty of recognizable features, combining them with modern details such as the Pixel Vizor faux grille you can output text onto.

The taillights are indistinguishable from the original ones at the first glance, but they are LED-based and sport 3D patterns. The 17-inch wheels are completely new.

Inside, there is a 12-inch digital dashboard merged with a 10-inch touchscreen display. Additions include bucket seats and a Petri tri-spoke steering wheel without any controls on it. The trim scheme involves a combination of leather and Alcantara in grey, black and yellow colors.

The original 1.6-liter engine makes room for an electric motor rated at 147 PS (145 hp / 108 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque. Opel stays silent about acceleration times, mentioning only that the 31-kWh battery the car comes with grants it 200 kilometers (124 miles) of range. Regenerative braking helps save some of the power, and the charger gets the battery from zero to full in four hours.

Interestingly enough, the original four-speed manual transmission stays in place, but it now commands an Automatic Mode that kicks in whenever you switch to the fourth gear.

The company does not have any production plans for the Manta GSe ElektroMOD.
