Video: Pagani allows a sneak peak of its engine assembly facility

Italian supercar maker Pagani Automobili has filmed a video in its engine build complex where employees put together the assorted Mercedes-AMG V12 units powering the company’s entire model lineup.

The engine demonstrated in the video must be meant for the upcoming Pagani Utopia coupe series. The accompanying description states that only one factory worker is responsible for building any given engine for the marque’s latest-and-greatest vehicle so far.

The man in the video is Michael Kübler, one of the key engine experts of Mercedes-AMG. Before he shifted his focus to building Pagani engines, he used to make them for the high-end sports cars from Affalterbach – the S 65, SL 65 and CL 65, as well as some bespoke builds and Mercedes-Maybach models. Although the footage is less than two minutes long, you can see Kübler piecing everything together using just his hands and a bare minimum of tools.

Horatio Pagani’s automotive business has been sourcing its powertrains from Mercedes-Benz since the release of its very first production car, the Zonda C12, in 1999. Most of them retained the original manufacturer’s standard displacement volume of six liters, but not without exceptions. Some Zonda units were upgraded to 7.0 and even 7.3 liters of displacement, while the Huayra R racer was given a proprietary naturally aspirated engine almost built from scratch. The road-going Huayra received a turbocharged variant of it. Both mills were designed with assistance from HWA AG, a historic affiliate of Mercedes-AMG.
