Polestar, premium EV maker and part of Volvo Car Group, is currently weighing the pros and cons of expanding its vehicle lineup with a new supercar inspired by this fall’s Synergy Concept (see the gallery and the video).
The corresponding statement comes from Maximilian Missoni, Head of Polestar Design. According to it, the company still has no definite plans for such a car, but realizes that the audience is vividly interested in a vehicle like this and may want to see it produced by the company. As such, Polestar continues exploring the idea and may ultimately greenlight the Synergy into production.
The original concept vehicle debuted at the IAA Munich show in September. If Polestar deems it worthy of a market release, it will entrust the project to its UK-based engineering HQ. The same team designed the new aluminum platform for the recently introduced Polestar 5 liftback and the Polestar 6 convertible scheduled for 2026. However, the Synergy – if it ever reaches the market – will be based on its own platform created from scratch.
In its show car form, the concept was just a life-size mockup of a car lacking a drivetrain of any kind. It was created based on the numerous projects from independent 3D artists that won the latest Polestar Design Contest (these contests have been going on every year since 2020). The final design was pieced together from the efforts of three winning artists, two of whom collaborated on the exterior while the third one handled the interior.
The result is a low-slung coupe with a sophisticated aerodynamic kit, flared wheel arches and a single-seat interior much like that of any other purebred racecar.
