Porsche’s flagship SUV set to get 1,000 horses under the hood

Porsche is designing electric motors for its future crossover SUV that will let it slam the ground with up to 1,000 PS (986 hp / 735 kW). According to Auto Motor und Sport, the sales will not start until at least 2027, by which time the company hopes to research and implement a number of required high-end technologies.

Work on the battery SUV internally known as ‘K1’ has apparently been going on for three years now. The production car may take advantage of the automaker’s new SSP platform supporting 900V power delivery. If so, it may replenish 80% of its battery within 15 minutes at most. That said, the development of the platform is not finished yet.

The motors will be able to deliver their peak power for long periods of time thanks to having individual oil cooling circuits. The publication believes the ultimate spec will make 1,000 metric horsepower like we mentioned above, whereas the base spec will be much tamer at 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW). Each motor will be hooked up to a wheel through a single-speed gearbox with a mechanical differential lock.

The chassis will benefit from air-ride components and enable height adjustment on the go. The rear wheels will be steerable up to 5 degrees.

Porsche’s new flagship might end up being its last EV for this decade. The company is already working on a number of other eco-friendly cars, including the Macan EV, the Cayenne EV and the new 718 lineup. The biggest and the most powerful SUV is scheduled to be released after all these.
