Safari-inspired Porsche 993 restomod sells for just $122k

Porsche rally car fans face limited choices these days: there’s the official 911 Dakar model priced at an eye-watering $223,450, and there are the assorted third-party builds of varying quality. Well, at least the example sold on Bring-a-Trailer the other day looked solid and cost its buyer barely more than a half of that price – $122,000.

The olive-green body is actually wrapped, and peeling off the vinyl will reveal a finish called Ocean Blue Metallic. The front end boasts a revised bumper with added undercarriage protection, and 16-inch Braid shod in Yokohama Geolander A/T rubber fill out the wheel arches. The suspension is completely new down to the arms and bearings, so it looks like this Safari is barely less capable than the OEM Dakar version away from the trodden path.

Power still comes from the stock 3.6-liter flat-six engine made in 1997. Only the intake is new, according to the listing.

Inside, the main highlights are Recaro seats with embroidered headrests, six-point safety harnesses, a hydraulic handbrake, and a gear lever for the stock 6M/T with a wooden knob on top. The air is conditioned, and the door have power window motors built in.

The total mileage is said to be around 124,000 miles (200,000 km).
