Porsche 911 GT3 RS launch date announced

Porsche has shared an official photo of the upcoming 911 GT3 RS racecar and revealed a few technical specifications along with a launch date: August 17, 2022.

Based on the image, a new aerodynamic kit makes most of the difference on the exterior side of things. It comprises a front splitter, air intakes in the frunk and front fenders and a massive rear wing. The latter likely consists of two parts and is larger than that of the current Porsche 911 GT3. Slightly bulging wheel arches suggest that the wheel span could also be wider than before.

According to the manager of the Porsche GT division Andreas Preninger, the car will be getting a high-revving flat-six engine rated above 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts). The latest 911 GT3 has four liters of displacement and commands 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) along with 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque, which enables it to zap 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds. Something similar can be expected here.

Having said that, Carscoops believes the engine will be more powerful than that and exceed that of the 911 GT3 RS with its 520 PS (513 hp / 382 kW). Upgraded chassis, enhanced aerodynamics and a boosted engine may enable the new 911 GT3 RS to outpace the standard GT3 model by a few seconds at the Nürburgring.
