Porsche announces a Formula 1-spec supercar

The German sports car maker intends to produce a successor to its 918 Spyder series (depicted here). The specs remain unknown, but rumor has it the car will be powered by a hybrid powertrain designed specifically for the Formula 1.

Croatia-based Rimac Automobili will participate in designing the powertrain. The two companies have been working together since 2018, when Porsche acquired a 10% share in Rimac. In September this year, this share grew to 15.5%.

The cooperation agreement between the two provides for battery tech R&D first and foremost, so a possibility exists that the 918 Spyder successor will be a fully electric vehicle.

Once it debuts, the Porsche hypercar will find itself in the same market niche as the Mercedes-AMG One.
