Missouri-based Stärke Motor Company has unveiled a project that involves rebodying a 718 Boxster or Cayman model into a 356 Speedster lookalike. It involves an all-new, custom-fabricated body and a lot of work, so the pricing is well into six digits.
The replica sports charming round headlamps, nicely bulging fender flares and a strongly sloping rear end with a vent grille in the engine bay lid. Retro chrome accents and fine details, like wing mirrors, add to the charm but cannot conceal how large the modern Porsche 718 is compared to the original 356. The proportions are about as good as they can be considering the donor chassis, but whether that’s good enough is up to you.
Stärke says it will trim the interior to your taste but leave the engine stock. Those who can supply their own fourth-generation Boxster or Cayman (2017MY or newer) will pay from $135,000 for the conversion. If you cannot source the car, the tuner will procure one for you and charge at least $189,000.
