Renault Twingo gets a couple of over-the-top styling kits in Japan

Two years ago, Hatano Automobile unveiled two unusual and eye-catching body kits for the affordable Renault Twingo. The C’eLavie Cross package envisioned the city car as an off-roader, while the C’eLavie 1985 endowed it with retro charms. The Japanese company hadn’t announced any production plans back then, but it’s now official that 20 kits will be made.

Starting with the Cross, it introduces “rugged” plastic parts all around the body, adds bumper inserts and replaces the stock wheels with turbine-like aftermarket rims. Arches get flared, the suspension gets raised and a large spoiler appears at the rear end.

In turn, the C’eLavie 1985 boasts large-diameter wheels, carbon-fiber trim bits all around, dual white tailpipes and a vivid blue livery with orange stripes.

From the technical standpoint, the Cross relies on a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged engine to move it around with 90 PS (89 hp / 66 kW). Its city-dwelling cousin uses the GT spec as base, which means it has 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW) in stock form. Hatano Automotive offers to upgrade it further with Bilstein shocks and a boost to 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW).

All prices are already online. Converted into U.S. dollars, the styling alone will set you back $8,500. The Twingo GT engine upgrade will add a further $1,800, and the suspension mods will come in at $1,600. Earlier posts about this tuning program on the Hatano website mentioned the possibility of swapping the car to Nissan’s mighty 3.5-liter V6 engine, but it’s unclear whether such a swap is currently available.

Five out of the 20 planned kits have already shipped, so get your order in soon if interested.
